I had a meeting with a prospective client and as soon as I walked into the meeting room, I could feel resistance and tension in the air.
She was a business owner of a multi-million dollar agency and really smart. She has a good business brain but eventually opened up to me and said “Bonnie, I think you feel my resistance on this. I have to be honest with you, getting me to use LinkedIn is going to be a hard sale”.
“Ohh”, I said, then I asked carefully “Why is that?”
“I Don’t Like LinkedIn, its full of spammers, weirdos and people telling me that I’ve saved a child’s life by connecting with them on LinkedIn. They are all full of shit. They don’t want to really get to know me, they just want to sell me something”
“UGHH“- she let out a big sigh of relief as she had just leveled with me.
Her assistant then giggled and announced to me that she was surprised that her boss was even in the room to listen to the opportunities about LinkedIn. But the assistant had urged her to consider LinkedIn as a tool to help grow her business.
Feeling much more relaxed, this business woman then eased into her chair and admitted that she had never given it a go.
She said that she knew that her ideal type of client was on LinkedIn, and then made the realisation that perhaps she was not aware of the great opportunities because she had never done any strategic marketing on the platform.
She had ONLY just seen the dodgy side of LinkedIn. They are only 5% of the LinkedIn community, I explained, but the rest of us are really normal, lovely people.
This video catches the essence of the conversation, which resulted in her giving it a go for a 12 month LinkedIn Marketing Campaign. This business woman is dynamic and highly creative. She is going to be wonderful to work for, as she creates amazing solutions for her clients.
She is a true warrior in her industry and you might even see her posts on LinkedIn, in the not too distant future.
